William Hill Review
William Hill, perhaps the biggest brand in online sports betting, a name synonymous with bookmaking, has closed its doors in Australia. Founded in England way back 1934, the William Hill sports book business has grown through the decades to be recognised as one of the biggest and most reputable bookies in the world. In 2014, William Hill bought an interest in Australian bookmakers Sportingbet, Centrebet and Tom Waterhouse. Following that strategic move, they officially operated as William Hill Australia, to service punters Down Under. In August 2018, William Hill Australia merged with CrownBet to form Bet Easy.
Sportingbet becomes William Hill
On February 24 2015, Sportingbet.com.au officially became William Hill. All aspects of the Sportingbet’s bookmaker business were transferred to the new brand. For existing customers of Sportingbet, all account and user details remain the same, however everything is run through and under the William Hill online business. It signals a change for Australia’s online betting providers, Sportingbet was one of the country’s largest and most popular brands, however, evidently the executives saw benefit in introducing the William Hill brand. It’s fair to assume that with the introduction of bigger brands and investment, that intensity of competition will soon follow.
